Its all about bones

One of Oklahoma City’s newest attractions is the Museum of Osteology. Some of you might be saying what is Osteology that was my first reaction. Osteology is the study of bones and here you will find an abundance of them. The museum is a dream come true for Jay Villemarette who has over the years become one of the world’s leading supplier of Osteology specimens.  There is definitely a “wow” factor as you enter the facility and see the 45 foot hump back whale hanging from the ceiling and standing nearby is a Giraffe, Elephant and Rhino. Cases line two floors where each skeleton from the most minut to the 2,000 pound whale has been meticulously cleaned and assembled for the display.

Group reservations can be made by calling 405-814-0006, group rates also available. I’d suggest allowing one hour for the self guided tour and browsing the gift shop. The museum is open seven days a week and located at 10301 South Sunnylane Road in south Oklahoma City.

Just a little trivia; Tim Rowe did a spot on “Dirtiest Jobs” featuring the cleaning of the Hump Back Whale a process that took two years.
